Start or Join a Group in OttawaOur small volunteer base of twelve has blossomed over the past ten years to an army of more than 800 people in 20 groups in Ottawa, and 20 branches across Canada. We have amazing volunteers who enrich our organization with a multitude of talents not all of them sewing-related.You can join a group that already exists in the Ottawa area or one of our 20 branches across Canada, or you can start your own group in Ottawa or a branch in your own community. And scroll down to see a list of non-sewing positions that may interest you. Whatever your preference, please contact us by e-mail or by phone at (613) 843-9212. Victoria's Quilts Canada gives you the opportunity to make quilts in a group setting - similar to the old fashioned quilting bees. Groups usually meet once a month (but more frequently if the members wish) to work on quilts in a friendly, social atmosphere. We use the team approach, where several people work on a single top, allowing them to complete it quickly. We have determined that four people working on one top can complete it in about two and a half hours. In some groups, this top is then taken home to be completed by one of the members. Each group works slightly differently as determined by the coordinator along with the help of the group. You do not need to be an "expert" quilter in order to participate in this program. Although we do not teach quilting, you will learn a great deal by working with other quilters. If you are an experienced quilter, you will learn new techniques and tricks - if you are a novice, you will learn the basics by participating and observing others at work. In the Ottawa area, if you prefer to work on your own, Victorias Quilts Canada will provide all the fabric required to make a quilt top, and you can make it in your home, with or without your friends, in your own time. If you would like to start your own group, contact the Group Coordinator by e-mail or by phone at (613) 843-9212. TopGroups in the Ottawa area
