Donate funds
Your donation, whether large or small, is very important. The quilts are a gift and no cost is ever passed on to the quilt recipient or the requester.
Our major sources of funds are donations from private individuals, who are often quilt recipients, as well as their families and friends. We are also fortunate to receive donations of cotton fabric from local stores and businesses, and from individuals who may be downsizing or culling their fabric stash. However, we often need to purchase additional cotton fabrics to augment our inventory, and we must purchase the batting and flannelette. The cost to purchase these materials is increasing, as are the number of requests for quilts that we receive (now averaging 600 per month). Our mailing costs, which currently exceed $25,000 annually, are also going up.
Your donation can make a difference, as each quilt costs us about $100 to complete. It will be used to purchase the materials needed to make quilts and pay our mailing costs for their delivery. VQC is a volunteer, non-profit organization. No one receives a salary and there is no budget for Board activities.
Monthly Giving Program
You can increase your contribution’s impact by becoming a member of our Monthly Giving Program. For instance:
- Donating $12 a month for one year will enable VQC to purchase one roll of cotton flannel to make the backs of 13 quilts.
- Donating $20 a month for one year provides enough funds to purchase one roll of quilt batting that can then be used to make 26 quilts.
When completed, these quilts can be sent out to provide comfort to someone living with cancer in your community.
As a monthly contributor, you not only help us reduce our administrative costs, you also provide us with a predictable source of income that allows us to plan ahead and maximize the use of donor dollars. Your monthly commitment, whatever the amount, will ultimately help brighten the lives of those who derive great comfort from a VQC quilt. Signing up is easy.
How to donate
Donations can be made online via CanadaHelps, which is a secure, encrypted website, or sent in by mail. Note that the CanadaHelps donation form allows for monthly as well as one-time donations.
CanadaHelps will issue a tax receipt for online donations, while VQC will provide one for any financial donation of $20 or more that is sent in by mail. If your donation is intended for a particular Branch, please identify it as such on the CanadaHelps website or on the back of your cheque.
